L. Martin Taylor is a Gastonia native who enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of seventeen. His duty assignments took him to Fort Dix (New Jersey), Fort Belvoir (Virginia), Fort Leonard Wood (Missouri) and Costa Rica; additionally Martin was assigned to a duty station in Germany for twenty-six months. Upon exiting the military he began college, first studying liberal arts, then moving on to study and obtain an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Gaston College in Dallas, NC. Martin was the first person in not only his immediate family but also his extended family to graduate from college. Thereafter, he enrolled at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. After college, he worked at the non-profit Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. as a Project Safety Engineer for over four years.
In 2003 Martin applied and was accepted at North Carolina Central University School of Law. While attending law school Martin worked as a Barbri Representative. served on the Law Review and was a member of the Intellectual Property Law Society. After graduation and passing the bar (first time round, yea) Martin opened his own solo practice. He began his law practice in 2006 from his home office and shortly thereafter moved it to Main Avenue in Gastonia. Growing tired of renting, he purchased his 431 S. York Street office in May of 2009 and continues to practice from this location.
Martin started practicing primarily in the area of criminal and traffic law; he is now in the process of expanding his practice to include Social Security Disability, Worker’s Compensation, Personal Injury and General Civil Litigation.
